Cycling across Europe for Charcot-Marie-Tooth: the CMT Danub Challenge

Published on February 1st, 2025

On April 14, 2025, Benjamin Arnaud will embark on an extraordinary journey: the CMT Danub’Challenge. This e-bike adventure will cover more than 700 kilometers across four European countries, following the majestic Danube River and passing through the iconic capitals of Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest.
The goal? Raising funds and awareness for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT).

An Invitation to Join the Journey

Benjamin invites CMT patients from Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary to join him for portions of the ride. Meeting points and departure schedules for each stage will be announced soon. This is an opportunity to come together, raise awareness, and share the road in solidarity.

What is Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease?

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a rare hereditary peripheral neuropathy that affects motor and sensory nerves, leading to muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and mobility challenges. This progressive condition remains under-recognized, and no cure currently exists. Hundreds thousands of people in Europe live with CMT.

Who is Benjamin Arnaud?

Benjamin Arnaud, 44, is a father of two and was diagnosed with CMT type X1 five years ago, following seven years of diagnostic uncertainty. Despite the challenges posed by this condition, Benjamin has chosen not to let it define his life. An avid traveler, nature enthusiast, and cycling advocate, Benjamin finds balance and resilience in sports. His journey is more than a personal adventure; it is a mission to inspire others living with CMT to embrace movement and adapt their lifestyles to thrive despite the disease.
As an active member of CMT-France, Benjamin aims to demonstrate the power of resilience and hope, encouraging others to stay active and positive.
